To match my 1797 Chemise Dress, I made this overdress out of cotton. The color therefore forms a strong contrast to the pure white. Additionally, I embroidered it with red cotton thread. The dress features a long train and is only lined in the bodice.

An open robe from “Costume in Detail” served as the reference, although I must also admit that one of Jane’s dresses from the 2005 film adaptation of Pride and Prejudice contributed significantly to the inspiration. I simply wear it over my chemise dress and all the underpinnings that go with it: chemise, short stays, petticoat, as well as traditional socks and my self-made shoes. Everything is entirely hand-sewn according to historical references and self-drafted patterns. We took the photos quite spontaneously at sunset.
